Get to know Richard
The first thing that grabs you is the voice. Soulful, rich, and indifferent to gravity, it soars over melodic, detailed pop that’s unlike anything you’ve heard before but something you instantly want to hear again. Accessible doesn’t even come close. The music of Richard Tichelman is positively addictive.
Debut Album, Richard
And with the release of Richard, his dazzling full-length debut, the charismatic singer/songwriter and guitarist builds on a CV already stacked high with countless accolades and awards, two EPs, and performances on marquee stages from Toronto to Los Angeles and many points in between as both headliner and sought-after supporting artist.
A 2019 recipient of the 25 Under 25 Award from the Surrey Board of Trade as well as a Surrey Arts & Business Award in the music category, Tichelman’s most recent achievements include (but are not limited to), entrance in a pair of CBC Searchlight Competitions, the 2018 Don Weldon Memorial Award at the Calgary Stampede (and its purse of $3,000, a feat repeated as a runner-up in 2019), a Peninsula Arts Foundation Scholarship, plus stateside songwriter's retreats and vocal camps, high-profile management with Knotty Music, and countless competitions, video shoots, writing sessions and event hosting gigs.
Impressive stuff for anyone but especially for a 20-year-old from Surrey, B.C. who has been performing — and racking up the beforementioned honours and some very loyal fans — pretty much his entire life. Today, with the new album Richard in hand, Tichelman is at the peak of his powers.
Co-written and recorded in 2019 in Vancouver and L.A. alongside veteran songwriters Brian Howes, JVP, and Ryan Stewart, who also added production, notably on lead single “The One,” Richard is the culmination — pinnacle, really — of a lifetime of writing and recording original songs.
